Ryan Mc Gee from gardendesignandbuild.com has been awarded Gold for his ‘Family Time” show garden at this years Garden Show Ireland which took place at Antrim Castle Gardens from 9th - 11th May. Finalists from all over Ireland gathered to discover who would claim Gold in the UTV’s Magazine Show Garden Challenge and the winners were revealed by gardening guru and broadcaster Alys Fowler.
A new Apprenticeship programme at Level 2 (craft level) is now available to employers within the horticulture sector through DARD which is funded by the Department of Employment and Learning (DEL). The Apprenticeship scheme is not available to public sector organisations. DEL and LANTRA (formally the Sector Skills Council for Horticulture), have produced an Apprenticeship framework, which will allow employees to gain valuable vocational qualifications and work related skills in the sports turf, landscaping and production sectors.
Congratulations to Mark Annett and Annett Landscaping Ltd on winning the 2013 Bog Oak Trophy. The award was presented at the Awards Lunch on Friday 18th October in Dublin.

The Head of the Northern Ireland Civil Service, Dr Malcolm McKibbin, has announced that Noel Lavery will take up the appointment of Permanent Secretary at the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) from 1 March 2013. Noel Lavery is currently the Accounting Officer and Director of Resources, Regeneration, International Relations and Institutional Review in the Office of the First Minister and deputy First Minister.
Forestry Minister Michelle O’Neill today announced the introduction of further emergency legislation putting in place safeguards on the imports of ash wood and bark.
A nursery forced to destroy 50,000 ash trees after dieback fungal disease was found is considering taking legal action against the government for failing to block imports sooner.
Members have highlighted that many of the CSR cards held by their staff have either expired or are due for renewal in the coming months.
