Joe Pat Prunty , the founder of Prunty Contracts has been involved in Agricultural Contracting and land drainage since the 1950’s. During this time the company emerged as one of the country’s leading land drainage and land reclamation specialists. Having developed a number of revolutionary drainage techniques the company is now recognised as one of the country’s leading sportsground specialists.

Involvement in Sportsground drainage came about in 1967 when Portora Royal School in Enniskillen sought the company’s advice on improving its playing fields. With the help of John Mulqueen of the Agricultural Research Institute the concept of the sand carpet emerged and the first sand carpet pitch was constructed at this site. This new system propelled the standard of playing fields to a higher level than ever before offering all year round playability even in the most inclement weather conditions.

For the past forty years the Prunty name has now become synonymous with Pitch construction. Over 400 GAA, Soccer and Rugby, Local Authority and school pitches stand as testimony to the quality of our work. The system and variants of the system are widely used in the UK and further afield.

Since the first prototype pitch was laid at Portora, the system continues to evolve with ongoing investment in research & development striving to improve on perfection!
